FIV
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus
Most FIV + cats who are kept inside and cared for can live just as long, and be just as healthy as other cats. Please learn about FIV and consider adopting one of these wonderful pets.
FIP
Feline Infectious Peritonitis
FIP is a disease that in years past was a death sentence in cats. Currently there is treatment, but FIP can be difficult to diagnose. Here is a link with helpful information. However if your cat starts behaving differently and you have concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
Declawing/Tendonectomy
Scratching is a natural behavior for cats, and even advanced declawing procedures are painful and can lead to long-term issues. Declawing involves amputating bone and tendon, similar to amputating human fingers at the first knuckle. These websites provide information about declawing, alternatives to consider, and tips on preventing or correcting unwanted scratching behavior.
TNR
Trap, Neuter, Release, is a common practice for keeping community / feral cats healthy, while controlling their population. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, and returned to the location which they came from – ideally, where shelter and food is provided.
Low Cost Spay & Neuter
Cincinnati is fortunate to have several options for low cost (or no cost, for community cats in traps) spay and neuter.
